Mountains to Sea skincare yummies

The products are rolling in. The displays are filling up. The Well Curated Cabinet will soon be overflowing with my favorite products. And let me say that I am very picky about my retail and backbar products. Shopping for skincare and makeup can be so overwhelming with all of the luscious smelling, perfectly packaged new items appearing daily on various social media blogs. Let me help you find the good stuff.

I’m in love with a lotion stick by Asheville, NC-based Mountains to Sea Skincare. Awesomeness in a push-up style container! It’s a solid balm that travels well, and with a little push on the underside it will melt right over your knees, elbows, and probably anywhere you’d like a little sweet smelling skin conditioning.
A bit about the active ingredients:
Calendula has been used for centuries as a food supplement for its internal calming properties, as well as a skin soother. Natural acne products often include Calendula for the cooling, soothing, and antibacterial benefits. You might know this flower from its beautiful golden petals, which contain beta carotene and many other beneficial antioxidants.
Lemon balm is a member of the mint family. It is grown widely throughout the world for its anti-inflammatory properties as both a food supplement and skin preparation.
Beeswax, olive and coconut oils make up the rich base for this thick, protective skin balm. Bonus: the calendula flowers are grown in NC! #keepitlocal #nc

Also in Monarch’s Well Curated Cabinet, you’ll find Mountains to Sea Rosemary + Vetiver body lotion and the invigorating Peppermint + Myrtle body salt scrub. Y’all are going to feel so soft!

M2 Skincare original MAMA lotion

Monarch Brow & Facial Studio is now selling the original MAMA lotion from M2 Skincare. I LOVE this product because you can feel and see the results immediately. Most of the serum/cream exfoliators I sample leave the skin dry, flaky, and irritated after continued use. Not the MAMA! When applied on clean, damp skin at night, the skin is hydrated and smoother in the morning. Continued use can result in a little normal, occasional peeling, however the MAMA serum is very well tolerated by sensitive and sensitized skins. I rarely see this product giving people any issues. In fact, mandelic acid is great for soothing the usual erythema, or blotchy redness, that comes with anti-aging skin peeling products.
For oily skin, this product might be all you need at night. The folks with drier skin can layer moisturizer over the MAMA and enjoy extra hydration power.
If you’re on one of those people who has trouble with Retin-A, this product is for you. We all need more cell turnover as we age in order to keep skin clear and bright, however prescription products can be too much for certain skin types. The M2 MAMA utilizes Malic and Mandelic Acids (MAMA, for short) to increase the cell turnover by breaking the protein bonds on the outermost layer of the epidermis, revealing fresher, brighter skin cells.
Increased cell turnover also helps clear acne and congested pores, smooths the pores for more even texture, and softens fine lines.
This original favorite is formulated in an algae extract base and packed with Ubiquinone, also known as Coenzyme Q10, to neutralize free radicals. Ubiquinone is rated as a “best” ingredient by Paula Begoun, the Cosmetic Cop, because of it’s soothing nature. The highly hydrating, olive-derived oil known as Squalane completes the base of this gel lotion.
Here’s a run down of the fantastic benefits of MAMA’s star ingredients:
Mandelic Acid: from the bitter almond, gentle exfoliator, pigment lightening, antibacterial
Malic Acid: from apples and grapes, gentle exfoliator, pigment lightening, pH buffering
Algae Extract: water-binding, soothing, antioxidant, emollient
Ubiquinone (Coenzyme q10): antioxidant, cell energizer
Squalane: from olives, intrinsic hydrator, scar diminishing, excess oil reducing, ideal delivery base

If you’re looking for a powerhouse antioxidant and gentle exfoliator in one, look no further. M2’s original MAMA is a five star product formulated to work on nearly all skin types and conditions.

Welcome M2 MAMA to the Well Curated Cabinet at Monarch Brow & Facial Studio!

Semi-Permanent Brow Enhancement aftercare

It is essential that you follow these instructions after your Microblading/Hybrid Brow sessions:
Day One (day of the treatment): included aftercare product will be applied to your eyebrows before leaving the studio. Thirty minutes post procedure you'll rinse with water only to remove the lymph from the skin and then reapply the  ointment. Wash your face in the evening being careful to very gently clean the eyebrows. Apply ointment product with a cotton swab in a thin layer to coat the fresh lines. It does not take much.
Day Two-Nine: Wash face as usual. Apply the ointment to your eyebrows twice daily, or as directed. Apply with a cotton swab and use no aggressive movement or manipulation of the skin. Make sure your hands are completely clean before caring for your eyebrows.
The following MUST BE AVOIDED during all nine days post-Microblading procedure:
Eyebrow makeup
Excessive sweating (if you cannot avoid sweating, it's imperative to wash your face ASAP)
Playing sports/hot yoga
Swimming
Hot sauna or steam room
Sunbathing or salon tanning
Any laser or chemical peelings, and/or any creams containing glycolic acid or Retin-A on the face
Picking, peeling, or scratching of the micropigmented area in order to avoid scarring or removal of the pigment
High dust areas (garage or basement cleaning)
Smoking
Drinking alcohol in excess as it may lead to slower healing of wounds
Touching the eyebrow area except for when rinsing/cleansing and applying of aftercare treatment with a clean cotton swab

Itching and flaking may appear during the first seven days post enhancement procedure, however, experience has shown that these symptoms can be reduced by following the above instructions. The healing of deeper wounds might last between 14-21 days. Touch ups and/or correction of the shape/design is recommended only after this period.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING AND AFTER BROW ENHANCEMENT SESSIONS

Your new semi-permanent eyebrows will go through several phases during the healing cycle. The pigment will appear very sharp and dark immediately after the procedure. This is because the pigment is still sitting on top of your skin and has not yet settled in completely. The color of the pigment will soften gradually and the lines will become thinner. Do not be alarmed if you see some pigment in the cotton swab as this is excess pigment and/or body fluid that is naturally exiting your skin.
Once the healing of the skin starts it will look like dandruff flakes or dry skin. This might give you the impression that the color pigment is fading too quickly, however, this is just superficial color and dry skin being naturally removed from your eyebrows.
Once completely healed, always protect your ink with a layer of sunscreen, SPF 30, or more. *Sun exposure, the use of retinoids, peels, laser treatments and other powerful exfoliators can cause the pigmentation to fade prematurely.*
To preserve the look of your eyebrows, retouching every 12 months is necessary. Your eyebrows will fade gradually over time, which is desired as our faces and coloring change.
You can now enjoy your beautiful new semi-permanent eyebrows!

What to Expect on your initial Microblade visit

Prep for eyebrow microblading is just as important as aftercare. You’ll get the best possible results when you adhere to the following prep steps. I’ll detail the aftercare steps in my next blog post.
A full day before your service you’ll want to end all blood thinning meds and supplements, like physician prescribed thinners, fish oil, alcoholic beverages, and pain relievers. These items cause the brow area to bleed easier. If you’re on prescription thinners you’ll want to talk to your doctor about the best way to taper your meds in a way that’s safe for you.
What to expect on your first visit to Monarch Brow & Facial Studio for microblading:
First, we’ll consult about your expectations. Listening to your needs, challenges, and desires is my job. I want you to leave happy with your new brows.
After chatting, we’ll map out your eyebrow shape using an adjustable tool designed to measure your face proportions. Once you’re happy with the map, we’ll move on to placing each hair in the brow with the microblade. Each blade is a pre-packaged, sterile, single use blade.
After the first round of lines are in, we can numb the skin for the pigment packing segment. I don’t numb the skin at the beginning of the procedure because it’s imperative that the hair lines be precise and fine; the numbing agent can cause the lines to become fuzzy. We’ll finish up with an awesome product called PhiShield for soothing and protecting. PhiShield is a beeswax based, essential oil boosted balm designed to soften and nourish the skin as it heals.

Intro to Microblading

Microblading (also known as Feather Stroke or 3D Brows) is a modern, semi- permanent, custom type of eyebrow tattooing. Unlike older methods of cosmetic tattooing that require a machine and often result in clunky, unnatural brows, Microblading is accomplished entirely by hand through a precise technique customized to create your perfect brow. After a thorough consultation, your brow is carefully mapped according to your unique facial structure using specially designed software as well as the technician's artistry and ability; it can take nearly an hour to perfect your custom brow map, which will be used as a guide during service. At the time of your appointment, the technician will carefully follow your brow map, meticulously hand-drawing each hair line into your brow for a hyper-realistic, subtle look that is nearly indistinguishable from your natural hair. Results will last for up to two years.

This treatment is ideal for anyone who needs gaps filled, over-plucked eyebrows made full again, or require full reconstruction due to medical conditions. Or, if you're simply tired of using pencils and wants to achieve a "perfect brow" -- but with imperfect results -- Microblading is an excellent, low maintenance option.

Prices start at $600, which includes a perfecting session one month after service. 18 month touch up appointments start at $250. Your initial consultation is free.
